Our Black Magic Cinema Camera and Aaton Delta Penelope Open day took place yesterday afternoon with a good attendance of people from a variety of fields from Cinematographers, to Camera Operators and Focus pullers. The day was a success, and people in attendance were happy to have the opportunity to properly scrutinise the footage from both cameras.

The day was carried out in our Resolve 9 suite, where we were able to view the footage on a calibrated monitor, which really helps to show the detail in the image that you cannot get from a compressed video online, or even from uncompressed footage on a regular screen. We were also able to show both the original camera RAW file, as well as graded tests on the images to show their latitude.

We shall be organising a more comprehensive day in the future, which will be in the style of a workshop event, where we will be able to test out the Black Magic Camera in a real world context, and then bring the resulting footage back into our suite for further testing. Those who RSVPed and attended the first Open Day will be informed of when this might take place. If this is something you might be interested in, please send us an email, and we will add you to the waiting list, so you can be kept up to date and for the possibility to participate.

We will also be keeping a close eye on the progress of the Aaton Delta Penelope, and perform further tests on new footage as the camera evolves. Before and after frame grabs from the footage shown in the open day of both cameras, will be posted onto the site in the coming weeks.

The diRoom will be having an Open day where you can have a look at the RAW footage from both the Black magic Camera and the Aaton Delta Penelope, in an actual grading environment, on a calibrated monitor with one of our colourists, and be able to test the material in various ways so you can see for yourself, just how useful shooting with these cameras might be in post, or in your post workflow.

The first day we are looking to schedule, would be for next Wednesday, October 10th 2012 at 2.30pm

There is also a provisional session scheduled for Wednesday 24th of October at 2.30pm (TBC)

If you would like to participate, please send an email to diroom@diroom.com

If you know anyone else who might be interested in coming along, please let them know and get them to email us and we can add them to the list.

The same list of people will be RSVPed for our more comprehensive test and open day specifically for the Black Magic Camera later in the year/early next year depending on when the manufacturing delay has been sorted out.

We look forward to hearing from you.

PLOT

To present five different contemporary stories involving different characters as one feature film. What these stories have in common is their expression of the way relational dysfunction prompts people to enact physical and/or emotional violence against themselves, each other or society. This common theme may be represented by a physical object or act that is not necessarily relevant to the plot, but which serves as a visual metaphor for the challenges facing different characters in different situations, who are confronted by the same problems.
